General Assistance is a short-term, employment-focused program for unemployed people who have no other means of support.

Support for

General Assistance provides ongoing help for disabled or unemployed people as they apply for and secure an ongoing source of support, such as Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Payment (SSI/SSP).

Eligibility

Any resident of Contra Costa County may be eligible for General Assistance, and proof may be required of residence.

You must have lived in the county for at least 15 days and be a lawful permanent resident or US citizen. Working people can receive General Assistance payments for a maximum of 90 days in a twelve-month period.

Medically-verified disabled persons may receive continuous General Assistance while they are disabled
