United Latino Voices of Contra Costa will launch its campaign “Porque Te Amo Te Cuido, una Vacuna Contra COVID Para Mis Hijos/ Because I love you, I will take care of you, a Covid vaccine for my children” at a Community Health Vaccine Fair on Saturday, April 23 from 10am-3pm, Nystrom Elementary School, 230 Harbour Way, Richmond, CA.
United Latino Voices, West County spokesperson, Genoveva Calloway says “our goal is to increase the number of vaccinated Latino children between the ages of 5-11 attending schools in Richmond and San Pablo and their parents. These communities have witnessed the lowest vaccination rates in West Contra Costa County.”
Contra Costa Health Services and the Nystrom School Community have joined the campaign to educate and motivate West Contra Costa Latino parents and guardians to vaccinate their children 5-11 against COVID. Several volunteers have been canvassing the Richmond community to inform them about the Health Vaccine Fair. As they canvass, community members are sharing their personal stories. Lorena Madrid, a community member says, “This is an excellent community campaign that is educating Latino families to have their children vaccinated against Covid. We must continue to fight the battle of misinformation about the Covid vaccine.”
Vaccinations, Flu Shots and Boosters are free and confidential. Other community resources include DACA information and support by Catholic Charities of the East Bay and the Mexican Consulate. Health insurance sign-ups by Lifelong Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Services. This is a family, children friendly event with raffle prizes and children games.
